Sugababes - Overload

Right, before we get started I would like to point out that I don’t Sugababes. I’ll freely admit that some pop acts (Girls Aloud) are great but they are few and far between and even the decent ones have albums full of stinkers alongside some perfectly crafted pop singles. Anyway, before they descended into bland cookie cutter crap Sugababes did have a pretty top debut single. You might not agree (and I probably wouldn’t blame you) but I really like it!

The Cure - Let’s Go To Bed

The Cure, and band who I’m sure will pop up here again at some point, released tonnes of classics. Most people know all the big tunes: Close To Me, Lovecats, Boys Don’t Cry etc. but this is one that might have escaped several of you. Released as a single all the way back in 1982 this is a lovely slice of 80s electronic pop music…

The Knife - Like A Pen

You’ll probably know Heartbeats by these guys which was pretty huge when José González covered it and it became the theme tune for a bunch of bouncing balls.

This is off the Swedish duo’s third album, Silent Shout, and is more of the same quirky electro stuff. The vocalist, Karin, recently released a solo album as Fever Ray. Wicked stuff

The xx - Crystalised

Pinch, punch, first of the month!

Let’s get February started with a band who seem to be lapping up the hype at the mo - the xx. Their debut album is pretty top stuff and this is one of my favs off it. If you’ve not heard them yet then you need to get on the case…
