Aleem – Get Loose

Totally awesome tune from Aleem who I know absolutely nothing about. Once again played to me by the same mate who had the Foster Sylvers tune. Another one that’s been sampled for a slightly more obscure track – C.M.C’s – Let Loose on one of my favourite hardcore labels, Ibiza Records.

I absolutely love this style of 80s electronic soul and really wish I knew more of the track names. If anyone has some recommendations then post ’em in the comments. I need more of this sort of stuff in my collection!

Foster Sylvers – Misdemeanor

A friend of mine showed me this tune years back after picking it up second hand. Apparently a well known old skool tune in its field I recognised the intro from M-Beat’s jungle track, Style.

Performed and released when he was only 11 years old Foster Sylvers was part of a family of singers & songwriters, similar to the Jacksons, so I’m told. This was his first hit and has also been sampled on many Hip Hop tracks, according to Google.

Enjoy!

Shabba Ranks – Caan Dun

Big tune from Shabba Ranks. For those who only know him for stuff like Mr Loverman here’s one of his more credible efforts with dancehall fans. Shabba chatting on the classic Punani riddim, definitely one of my favs, and the usual lyrics about girls winding their arses etc. I wouldn’t listen to that too much, just brock out (and ting)

Jon B Featuring Beenie Man – Everytime Remix

A bit of R&B here from one of my preferred crooners, Jon B, not to be confused with the Drum & Bass guy. Beenie Man joining for the remix and cool little beat pushing things all along, not bad at all!

Burzum – Rundgang Um Die Transzendentale Säule Der Singularität

OK, bear with me on this one. When I started this blog I thought about posting up metal tunes and decided against it as I’m well aware that it might scare a few people off, even if it is a type of music that I love.

This tune is from infamous Norwegian black metal arist Burzum AKA Varg Vikernes taken from his Filosofem album. He’s kind of a cult figure and completely not a nice bloke but, sadly, he made incredible music before he decided to go round killing people and generally being a naughty boy. The black metal tag is probably a bit unfair for most of this album as a lot of it does share similarities with ambient music, albeit ambient stuff with incredibly distorted guitars and live drums. If you’re willing to take a chance then check the album out, specifically the track Dunkleheit which is absolutely amazing.

For those who are scared by guitars here’s part of a 25 minute(!) electronic piece from the album. It doesn’t do much but it somehow works
