Nookie is one of my all-time favourite producers. He’s been behind so many huge tunes, loads of which people don’t really realise were engineered by him (most of Ray Keith’s biggest tracks, for instance). From his hardcore outings, through jungle and on to D&B he has consistently put out top quality releases. This one is just perfect for the current summer that we’re experiencing here in sunny London. Bought out back in ’95 on the legendary Reinforced Records this one is a lovely mash up of female vocals, rolling beats and that trademark piano sound that often pops up in Nookie’s tunes.
I’ve picked up a few tunes from Manchester’s XXXY recently. His Blue Flashing Lights EP released as a split with Ike Release is awesome laid back spacey funky/garage. There are a load of unreleased bits on his Soundcloud page, this being one of my favs
UK DMC champ Blakey has put together a half hour mix of UK Garage classics over on Mixcloud. There are some wicked tunes on here with a few anthems but also a bunch of lesser known tracks. 18 tunes in all in 30 minutes which is pretty speedy going
It looks like Clipz has totally stopped making D&B now and is concentrating on his Redlight project. Good news, I say. He knocking out some serious tunes at the moment and this new(ish) one is no different. There’s a vocal mix featuring Miss Dynamite but I prefer the original instrumental track. Hopefully this one will be about to buy soon!
An 80s classic from everyone’s favourite Doobie Brother, Michael McDonald. His biggest tune was probably I Keep Forgetting which many will know as the sample from Warren G’s Regulate. This is the one, though. TRUST!
