Young Gunz – No Better Love

Back on the hip hop/r&b tip to start the week off. I’ve never been on for lyrics on hip hop tunes, especially commercial stuff like this but always loved the beats on this Young Gunz track.

Lone – Outlander

Don’t know much about this bloke but I like what I’ve heard so far. There’s a 10″ on Magic Wire Recordings coming out soon that sounds wicked (you can hear it on the website). This track on his Soundcloud is some awesome stuff too. Beats, haunting synths & pianos. What more can you ask for? Reminds me of 90s Warp stuff at some points but at the same time wickedly danceable. Lovely stuff. More, please.

ps I know where that piano sound was nicked from 😉

The Psychedelic Furs – President Gas

In a mood for guitar music this morning. I love The Psychedelic Furs, they had some big tunes back in the 80s. They provided the wicked theme tune to John Hughes’s Pretty In Pink but it’s their other tunes that I’m more into. Check this one for a slice of new wave goodness

Dinosaur Jr – Get Me

I just picked up Dinosaur Jr’s awesome Where You Been album on vinyl on eBay the other day. I’ve not really listened to it in a good 10 or 15 years and was a little surprised that it still sounds great. I was gonna post up the first track, Out There, but decided on this one instead…

YoungBloodZ – Damn

I went through a period of buying loads of “crunk” (stupid name) hip hop a few years back, mainly due to me thinking that Lil Jon was pretty funny. I started out hating it but then grew to love the simple beats and rubbish lyrics. It’s wicked party music that doesn’t take itself too serious. Well, I hope not anyway.

This was produced by Lil Jon and was a pretty big tune back in 2002 when it came out. The drop at 0:45 always used to smash it for me. I feel the need for a lot more hip hop on here in the near future and reminds me I should really dig out my vinyl at some point.
