Andy C & DJ Rap @ Jungle Fever ’94

Andy must have been around 18 when this was shot. Some wicked tunes being played

Soul II Soul – Jazzie’s Groove

I’ve always loved a bit of Soul II Soul. I remember having Club Classics Vol. 1 on vinyl back in the late 80s when it came out and played it millions of times. They never quite bettered that album but they’ve done plenty of wicked tracks over the past 20 years (writing that makes me feel old). They played a live set at Bestival a few years back which was wicked vibes dancing away in the sunshine.

“A happy face, a thumpin’ bass for a lovin’ race”

SBTRKT – Timeless

I’m not usually a fan of bootleg mixes of classic tunes as they’re rarely good. There have been a few good ones, such as the black label mix of Johnny L’s Hurt You So but on the whole they should be avoided like the plague. SBTRKT is a badman and it’s no real surprise that his take on Goldie’s Timeless is actually pretty decent. I approve.

Cutty Ranks – Hand Grenade

Big old skool reggae tune from OG Cutty Ranks who has far too many badman tunes to his name to put them all up here. All about the explosions in the background

D1 – Underground Orchestra

I found this on D1’s Myspace when trying (and failing) to find the name of another of his new tracks that I’ve been hearing on radio a fair bit recently. Top stuff as usual but something a little different on this track with no beats in sight and lots of atmospheric pads. Lovely
