Perfect pop. I’ve been struggling to get this out of my head for most of January. Now it’s your turn…

New Order Live at The Haçienda – 26/06/82

This gig must have taken place a month or so after the legendary club had opened. For anyone with even a passing interest in the Hacienda, Factory Records or New Order/Joy Division I’d recommend reading Peter Hook’s “The Haçienda: How Not to Run a Club”. Anyway, great tunes from a great band…

Set list:

  1. In A Lonely Place

  2. Ultraviolence

  3. Denial

  4. The Village

  5. We All Stand

  6. Senses

  7. Chosen Time

  8. 586

  9. Temptation

  10. Everything’s Gone Green

Lina featuring Guru – It’s Alright (Gang Starr Remix)

I’ve been trying to remember the name of this for years and finally managed to remember it enough to let Google do the rest of the work. Kinda weird but cool Premier production and bumpin’ R&B vocals over the top make this work in all the right ways.

I-Level – Give Me

I’ve been picking up a load of 80s soul stuff recently that I’d been meaning to grab for a while and it’s given me a good excuse to go hunting for some new (old) tunes at the same time. The glorious YouTube helped me discover this little corker.

Untold – Bachelor’s Delight

Tucked away on the b-side of his release on Clone Basement Series is this little gem. The a-side is a slightly more techno-y affair which is well worth picking up itself but this is the one that does it for me. Serious bassline at work
