The Teardrop Explodes – When I Dream

You know when you listen to an album and you know half the tunes on there but never knew who they were by and what they were called? No? Maybe it’s just me then.

This just happened to me with The Teardrop Explodes’ awesome Kilimanjaro LP. I have no idea when I heard all of these songs as I don’t ever recall listening to these guys before (although they have been on my “list of bands who sound interesting and I should probably check out” for a while). Top 80s “psychedelic” post punk/new wave/indie/whatever from Julian Cope et al. Listen.

Twin Shadow – Beg For The Night

This dude is sick. Kinda sounds like it was made in the 80s in someone’s bedroom when it was really made in 2012, probably in someone’s bedroom. Both of Mr Shadow’s albums are great, if you like this then check them out.

The Psychedelic Furs – President Gas

In a mood for guitar music this morning. I love The Psychedelic Furs, they had some big tunes back in the 80s. They provided the wicked theme tune to John Hughes’s Pretty In Pink but it’s their other tunes that I’m more into. Check this one for a slice of new wave goodness

Peter Schilling – Major Tom (Coming Home)

80s German synthy new wave action here with a tune I discovered in some trendy bar in New York a few years back. Maybe it was a big hit over there or something but I’d never heard if before and it’s cool.

The original version in German is good too for those who want the OG track although the lyrics don’t really seem to say the same thing as the translated one.
