Ex-New Kid On The Block comes out with a pop smash in 1999. Who woulda thunk it? While I’ll be first to point out that pop music is mainly utter crap there are some real gems hidden away this, for me, definitely being one of them.
I guess I should really hate this tune but those funky semi-electro style beats and cheesy chorus always gets me singing along. Couldn’t find the video on YouTube apart from a version with terrible audio. Instead here are a load of pics of Mr Knight for you to swoon along to as you listen…
Well, since the first one went down so well I had wanted to do a second mix for a while. People were also already requesting another one practically as soon as I had sent out the link for the first mix. However, I wanted to do something a bit more special for this one that would take a long time and, after a lot of technical problems and hours spent refining the bloody thing, I finished it.
It’s the first mix that I didn’t do live. All my mixes are done in one take with no re-recording but for what I had in mind for this one I had to record it in four sections and then piece it together, it’s the only mix I’ve worked out a rough tracklist for as well, all the other ones I do I just grab a pile of tunes and then see what happens. It was constructed in Logic and all the sound fx and movies samples were put over the top then was exported in two parts and joined together to form the final “masterpiece”.
It was a pain in the arse to make but I think it wipes to floor with the first one, hope you all enjoy it it definitely made me chuckle loads when I was doing. Many thanks to Cheetah & Logic for the custom vocals and Dave “All Good” H for finding me the Tim Westwood-esque bomb sounds….DAMN!!
I originally did this one night for a bit of fun. I grabbed a stack of 45s and set about recording a set picking out tunes at random and seeing what would mix in. The results, I thought, were pretty ropey, but amusing nonetheless so I decided to post the mp3 up on a few message boards, not knowing how people would react.
It went down really well and it’s cool to see that so many people have enjoyed the mix. I even heard of people burning CDs for their mates or playing it down the pub!
It’s all done for a bit of a laugh, perfect material for a house party, grab a drink, put on the mix and jump about like you used to when you were younger. Loads of these are tunes that I listened to as a kid growing up in the 80s.
