Pretty well known for his wicked We Don’t Have To track – a killer 80s tune, which I’m sure I’ll feature on here at some point, here’s Jermaine Stewart in 1987 with Get Lucky. I wanted to embed the video itself which has him poncing around with a wickedly gay take on the greaser/teddy boy hairdo but all the versions on YouTube are terrible quality and all out-of-sync. Here’s the 12″ mix…
Alphaville, probably best known for Forever Young, a tune that gained a bit more popularity from being on the soundtrack to Napoleon Dynamite and also had a wickedly crap happy hardcore remix (what didn’t?), were totally awesome. Germans did the whole 80s electronic thing pretty perfectly and this track is one of my favs from the era.
I found out the name of this tune in a strip club in Budapest. The “basement bar” at the hotel turned out to be full of manky looking women getting semi-naked and attempting to sell their services to anyone who’d listen. The DJ in the corner put this tune on, which I remembered from pop charts many moons ago, so I had to go and ask what it was called. I then left. Swiftly.
UK folks (only?) might recognise this from the adverts for Grand Theft Auto 537, or whetever number they’re up to now. Classic 80s rock from the Crüe, funky little slow bit in the middle and all. Listen for the really crap keyboards(?) that come in on the fade out. Odd.
Everyone knows the biggie – Hangin’ On A String (Contemplating) but there are quite a few people out there who have never heard much else by Loose Ends
What a tune. It’s been sampled in some hip hop tunes, I’m sure, but also a few random jungle tunes. None worth listing, though, just enjoy the tune
