Pharrell Williams – Gust of Wind

Pharrell’s album’s out and it’s not too bad at all. Aside from the crappy Daft Punk vocals this is my pick of the bunch – nice chorus and cool little synth string arpeggios make this a sweet little summery ditty. I’m guessing that because it’s featuring Daft Punk means it’ll be a future single?

Stubborn Heart – Two Times A Maybe

I’ve been absolutely loving the Stubborn Heart album since, depressingly late for the party, discovering it last week. It’s an awesome collection of moody electronic R&B but stretches across all sorts of genres. Some of it sounds very similar to Twin Shadow whose Confess album is one of my favourites from recent years. Get on the case with this one immediately.

ABC – Many Happy Returns

Poison Arrow and Look of Love may well be staples of the 80s disco but have any of you actually listened to anything else ABC did? If no, then you’ve missed out. Lexicon of Love is a great album full of catchy motifs and funky-ass basslines. Martin Fry’s vocal style and delivery is always on point and it’s nice to find a band that had huge singles success but could actually back it up with a decent album (or two).
