Urban Myths – Stronger

Urban Myths was a wicked little label that put out four top UK garage releases back in the late 90s. I guess they’re fairly hard to come by now and a couple of them will set you back a few quid but they’re well worth grabbing if you see them around. The man behind the moniker was Mike Millrain who was part of the Nice ‘N’ Ripe crew and released lots of wicked tracks under a huge array of names. Badman

The vocal is nicked from Alexander O’Neal – Criticize which makes this tune even more awesome

Another Level – Guess I Was A Fool (MJ Cole Remix)

Yeah, yeah, I know. Another Level are shite. Dane Bowers getting arrest in Croydon reminded me of them and this nice little remix that MJ Cole did for pretty much every chart single back in 1999. Not differing much from that standard MJ Cole remix formula that must have netted him a bucketload of cash at the time this somehow made a very average tune pretty decent. Some may disagree, of course.

ps Bomb Diggy was the biz, if only for Dane’s horrendous cowboy rapist outfit.

Seven Wonders – Crazy

Massive garage tune from Zed Bias back in ’99 released on the Dreem Team’s DJs For Life label. Lovely mellow vibes in the intro but with that wicked deep bassline. I remember this one getting played loads back in the day…

Pseudo – Heartbeat

I was about to write that I didn’t know who Pseudo was but just checked Discogs and it’s none other than Grant Nelson and Norris “Da Boss” Windross! This may well be one of those tunes that you’ve heard a million times but never knew the name of. Lovely track…

Grant Nelson – In My Soul (Dubbed Out Mix)

I’ve been getting back into Garage recently after buying a mate’s collection. We used to go out to loads of Garage clubs back in the late 90s when I was just a young lad and it’s wicked to now be able to put names to some of these tunes.

The bad thing is that I’m now addicted to this stuff and eBay and Discogs are doing some very bad things to my bank balance, even if loads of these tunes can be picked up for almost nothing.

Anyway, something here from Grant Nelson, a man responsible for so much good music it’s ridiculous. He started out making hardcore as Wishdokta and made many classic tunes in the Happy Hardcore genre before it went way too four to the floor and cheesy. He is probably most well known for his Garage and House output, running several huge Garage labels like Nice ‘N’ Ripe and all of its sub-labels that churned out the tunes in the 90s.

Enough talking, music time…
