A tune that’s been sampled and re-recorded many times but nothing beats the original (I think this was the first one!). I expect a fair few people will recognise this but might not know the name – Foxy Brown & Jay-Z did a hip hop version in the late 90s which wasn’t far off this one, beats-wise.
A total 80s soul classic, I could dance to this stuff all night long. Love it
Alexander is one of my favourite r&b/soul singers. The man can sing his heart out and has a super distinctive voice that always sounds totally wicked. In the 80s he was a big, big deal selling out arenas all over the shop and rightly so, his hits from back there were absolutely top.
He usually rocked the suave gentleman look while on stage: sharp suits done well but there are a few videos of him around where he is showing some amazing fashion sense off. I wish I looked as cool as him in these clips
The yellow suit
Saturday Love – what a tune. This yellow suit is seriously amazing, not many people could pull this off but Mr O’Neal makes it looks fresh. Shame about the crappy clip 🙁
Furry collared leather jacket, white scarf and argyle jumper
Innocent – another great tune but, wow, this outfit is off the hook. No wonder all the girls are all over him, this look is increds. I have to admit he doesn’t look as good towards the end when the jacket comes off to reveal a tank top underneath…should have kept it on, pal.
Totally badman tracksuit with white shirt
Saturday Love again, I honestly can’t explain how much I love this tune. Anyway, that’s not what we’re on about here. The fact that he’s crooning away wearing what appears to be a black & white tracksuit with a shirt underneath is brave. I don’t how but he looks so fucking cool in this.
Alex, I take my hat off to you…
ps just found out that he sang backing vocals on SOS Band – The Finest which makes him even more awesome
Awesome piece of 80s cheese straight out of the Transformers movie. Got to link to Mark Wahlberg’s amazing version of it in Boogie Nights – it’s a massively impressive performance, it must have been pretty tricky to get it to sound that bad. This tune also came out on a totally awesome picture disc that a friend was kind enough to give me for my birthday a couple of years back. Too cool for school
The Pointer Sisters had some seriously top tunes, this definitely being one of ’em. Massive chorus that I really recognise from being sampled/ripped in something else but can’t quite put my finger on.
The video is incredible with ridiculous boxing dance moves from 2:35 onwards. Big tune!
Totally awesome tune from Aleem who I know absolutely nothing about. Once again played to me by the same mate who had the Foster Sylvers tune. Another one that’s been sampled for a slightly more obscure track – C.M.C’s – Let Loose on one of my favourite hardcore labels, Ibiza Records.
I absolutely love this style of 80s electronic soul and really wish I knew more of the track names. If anyone has some recommendations then post ’em in the comments. I need more of this sort of stuff in my collection!
