Kleeer – Intimate Connection

Smooth soul from back in the 80s with a band so fond of the letter E that they put three of them in their name. Big, big tune that I always love hearing when I happen upon a club playing rare groove and the like. Also has wickedly (and forgivably) misheard title – who can really listen and not think they’re singing about an “internet connection”?

SOS Band – Tell Me If You Still Care

The SOS Band made a several soul classics and are probably best known for Just Be Good To Me which was covered by Beats International (AKA Fatboy Slim) and The Finest, a tune that hardcore fans will recognise from many tunes, most notably Foul Play’s Finest Illusion.

The is classic slow jam action, catchy vocal hooks and sultry backing. Perfect for winding the night away…

Mayer Hawthorne – Just Ain’t Gonna Work Out

Something new that I like. Lovely bit of stripped down soul from geeky looking white dude. Lovely harmonies in the chorus…yum

Wish I’d picked up one of those heart shaped records :'(

RenĂ© & Angela – I’ll be good

A tune that’s been sampled and re-recorded many times but nothing beats the original (I think this was the first one!). I expect a fair few people will recognise this but might not know the name – Foxy Brown & Jay-Z did a hip hop version in the late 90s which wasn’t far off this one, beats-wise.

A total 80s soul classic, I could dance to this stuff all night long. Love it

Aleem – Get Loose

Totally awesome tune from Aleem who I know absolutely nothing about. Once again played to me by the same mate who had the Foster Sylvers tune. Another one that’s been sampled for a slightly more obscure track – C.M.C’s – Let Loose on one of my favourite hardcore labels, Ibiza Records.

I absolutely love this style of 80s electronic soul and really wish I knew more of the track names. If anyone has some recommendations then post ’em in the comments. I need more of this sort of stuff in my collection!
