Alphaville, probably best known for Forever Young, a tune that gained a bit more popularity from being on the soundtrack to Napoleon Dynamite and also had a wickedly crap happy hardcore remix (what didn’t?), were totally awesome. Germans did the whole 80s electronic thing pretty perfectly and this track is one of my favs from the era.
I found out the name of this tune in a strip club in Budapest. The “basement bar” at the hotel turned out to be full of manky looking women getting semi-naked and attempting to sell their services to anyone who’d listen. The DJ in the corner put this tune on, which I remembered from pop charts many moons ago, so I had to go and ask what it was called. I then left. Swiftly.
Gotta love a bit of RnB, especially from a man who can, allegedly, make a woman’s undies wet from a mere glance. I always thought he looked a bit old, but, hey, I’m the wrong demographic to really have a valid opinion.
Add some slow jam smoothness to lyrics about having sex in a Jeep, one of the coolest automobiles in the world, and you have a true winning formula
The idea of sticking something up on your tent hoping to find it in the night, to me, sounds like an idiot’s game. I’ve been to many festivals in my time and have not lost one in the darkness yet (fingers crossed). Most I’ve been to have selections of morons with pirate flags or “Essex boy’s on toor” or something written on them.
1996 is the year and some lovely atmospheric jungle here from the Future Bound lads. I only recently worked out the name of this one after hearing it on many Bukem mixes in the mid-90s. Should really get around to picking this 12″ at some point!
Highly recommended although, in this form, now discontinued, I give you perhaps the finest brownie I have ever had.
I can’t recommend enough the butcher(?!) who made these – Jack O’Shea’s. They also make some of the most amazing baguettes known to man and, even though they’re sitting practically opposite Harrod’s, they’re cheap!
