A morning spent listening to Paul Simon’s Graceland reminded me of this tune that I haven’t listened to in probably over a decade. A very simple track but one that truly proves that less is more…
Right, before we get started I would like to point out that I don’t like Sugababes. I’ll freely admit that some pop acts (Girls Aloud) are great but they are few and far between and even the decent ones have albums full of stinkers alongside some perfectly crafted pop singles. Anyway, before they descended into bland cookie cutter crap Sugababes did have a pretty top debut single. You might not agree (and I probably wouldn’t blame you) but I really like it!
The Cure, a band who I’m sure will pop up here again at some point, released tonnes of classics. Most people know all the big tunes: Close To Me, Lovecats, Boys Don’t Cry etc. but this is one that might have escaped several of you. Released as a single all the way back in 1982 this is a lovely slice of 80s electronic pop music…
Junior, proving that you don’t have to look cool to feature heavily in your own video, weighed in with this party classic in 1982. I have no idea if he ever did anything else but I certainly don’t remember hearing any other tunes by him. Mind you, I was 4 at the time so it’s possible that the follow up singles passed me by.
He does win back cool points by sitting in a pink bath tub and, trust me, this tune rocks the party
