Rogue Unit – Dance Of The Saroes (Nookie Remix)

Another one on the jungle tip inspired by an incredible thread over at Dogs On Acid (a place that I visit less and less frequently nowadays). Hours of amazing atmospheric/melodic jungle & dnb to listen to in there with some really great links.

Here’s a fav of mine from the wicked Labello Blanco, a label that went from early hardcore up through to jungle and dnb often releasing a pretty good variety of styles along the way. There are a few stinkers in there but many classics.

This one is a remix from Nookie of a track originally by Rogue Unit, AKA Steve Gurley, a man who has covered so many different genres in dance music and layed down countless classic is a bit of classic jungle. Steve, along with producers like Pete Parsons, is a completely unsung hero of early UK dance music and should really have his contribution recognised.

Big Vern & Bushman – Digital Maximum

Kinda susprised to find this on YouTube but, since it’s up there, I’ll share it here

A pretty obscure track tucked away on the b-side of a rare release from 93/94. Rougher Than A Lion on the same 12″ is also well worth a listen. Definitely a 12″ worth picking up. I just the sounds and bass that come in at around 1:30 – it’s def a bit of a weird tune but I kinda dig it!

It’s Friday afternoon. Big tune. Nuff said

Paranormal Activity

I caught this in the US a couple of weeks back after seeing a trailer before I left to go out there. I’m a bit of a sucker for a good horror film, especially one that does actually scare you and doesn’t just rely on excessive gore and this definitely falls into that category.

There were some serious noises going on in the cinema as people tried to calm themselves down with nervous laughter in between lots of “ooooooh fuckkkkk!” moments.

Not quite sure when this will be hitting the UK but I’m sure it will as it’s been a huge success stateside (made for $15,000 and pulling in millions at the box office).

Go see it on the big screen, you will shit ’em.

More info here but I’d almost recommend not watching the trailer and just waiting for the film. It doesn’t spoil anything but you’ll probably enjoy the film more if you don’t watch it (all will become clear afterwards…)

Fuck Buttons – The Lisbon Maru

After seeing the name on various ATP line ups I had assumed that Fuck Buttons would just be another noisy drone band with a funny name. However, I checked the recent album, Tarot Sport, and was pleasantly surprised. Awesome gritty synths with an almost tribal feel to much of it, I highly recommend you pick the CD up.
